Gate up
Charge
Legs pound
Nostrils wide
Muscles Strain.
He stands
Unconcerned
Head down
Maddened eyes
Dust rises.
Heart booms
Wild drum
People cheer
Near him
Closest now.
Braced neck
For weight
But nothing
A sting
Insect bite.
Wheel
Turn back
See him
Charge
Stung!
Again
Sweat in eyes
Sweated flank
Strange languour
Stretched time.
Snort
Shake head
Heavy
Hurl forward
Missed.
Slower turn
Heart racing
Heaving chest
He nears
Pricked.
Dances
Stings
Too light
Stumble
Fall.
No!
Stand
Fierce glare
Narrowed eyes
Bellow.
This time
Grind him
Stomp him
Too slow again
Gone again.
Weary now
Blood
Pouring out
Smell it
Dying.
His eyes
Kind and cruel
‘I think’
He says
‘We need a break.’
Great piece, Your creative flows are really going lately. Every piece is better than the last and they have all been amazing. As I a reader I extremely delighted to see such great work. πIt’s making me want to write some amazing pieces too!π

Ah Deirdre, I know, I know – I should get out more, and should visit you there in the US, I’m so sorry. I’m a big fan of your wonderful poetry and actually bam in awe of how you manage to produce such lovely work day after day – which is more than I could ever achieve. I have to keep switching genre to get any kind of mileage out of my humble skill set. I guess it I seem to be improving at all it’s because I’m desperately reading and doing practices from the Creative Writing undergraduate material in preparation for the Masters course, which starts today, in fact! So all credit goes to my teachers – Derek Neale and Linda Anderson. I would highly recommend their books. You’re so sweet, Deirdre, I wish that I could stretch out and give you a big hug. π Have a great day.
Kindness – Robert.

Interesting piece, Robert. The idea of a real bullfight seems horribly barbaric, doesnt it? Metaphorically, not much better…

Yes. I was trying to draw parallels between two types of barbarism – the bullfighting and the end of a relationship. Such bloodshed. Sheesh.

Whew, I feel like I got this one. Sometimes I’m just too literal for poetry. You’ve not been gored lately, I hope?

Hahaha – sometimes it feels like life is one long, bloodless bloodletting.

That will require a longer explanation which I will hopefully get from you π

Okay, so I had to do a lot of leg work to find out what that was about. But I found it! And so – hahaha! π

Hahaha! Wow, leg work, huh? See, here in the U.S., we have these new fangled phones and computers to look things up and don’t have to go to the library π

Wait, what? I am back on my pain meds after the surgery yesterday so I may be a little sillier than usual. I didn’t mean to be combative, though. Sorry

That’s okay, Dee. How did the surgery go? Did the surgeons accomplish what they set out to do?

It was easy enough to write. It’s the referencing that slayed me! Still – it’s done. Next assignment is in May. π
What, you don’t like dying bulls?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Ah…the referencing. Must’ve been tedious. Yay for you for getting it done. π
I’d rather not watch dying bulls, thanks. I’m one of those hypocritical meat eaters who would become vegetarian if I had to kill animals myself.

Well you’ll be please to know it was fiction. No animals died in the making of that … thing. π

Do you know these words without using a translator? I can read/understand them pretty easily, but I would struggle with the spelling if I had to write them.

You might know this already, but it seems that native speakers of tonal languages have an advantage in learning music. Thought you might find this interesting: https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2015/11/tonal-languages-linguistics-mandarin/415701/

Yeah, actually that was quite interesting. I can’t think of anything profound to say about it, though. π

Glad you found it interesting. You don’t have to say something profound or witty about everything, you know. π
