Words are powerful. If you allow them to, they have the ability to release transformative feelings in the human heart – for good or bad. Words also have the ability to motivate us to action, or stop us from acting. It is for these reasons that it is wise to carefully consider the types of things we write and subsequently whether we should unleash those words on the world.
These consideration are particularly important for someone who has great skill with the written word.
Consider the following quotes and think about their impact on your mind, heart and the way you live:
- “I have a dream.” (Martin Luther King)
- “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” (Albert Einstein)
- “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” (Dr. Seuss)
Now consider the following:
- “Shop till you drop.” (Anonymous)
- “As he slashed at her defenceless throat and felt her hot blood spurt across his face, a great pleasure rose in him – this was why he’d been created!” (Robert C. Day)
- “I wish you’d never been born.” (Angela Mountford’s mother)
We have a responsibility, as writers, to enhance the lives of ourselves and those around us. We can only theorise about why previous civilisations have fallen, but I wonder whether this (theoretical) book, published in Mesopotamia (the first people to have writing) by the most popular author of the day called “Mineral Salts Poisoning Our Fields? – Don’t Worry – Let’s Go Shopping!” would have had a positive or negative effect.
Now that’s some title! Personally I agree with you. Words are absolutely powerful which is why I’m selective about what I read. And careful about what I write. BTW I love that Dr Seuss quote 🙂

I get the sense that we are quite similar, Miri (can I call you Miri?). And what’s not to love about Dr Seuss?! Words are so powerful that when I make my first million pounds from my writings I will personally thank each letter of the alphabet individually. 😀

I think we’re similar too! And yes, you can call me Miri, only my good friends do and I have a feeling you’ve very quickly become one! 🙂

Whee! I like you, Miri – you say all the best things at all the best times. If the whole world were like us then there would be world peace and free pizza and chocolate every Tuesday and Friday evening at 6pm local time. 🙂

I like you too Robert. Free pizza and chocolate hey? You’re a man after my own heart. ♥♡♥

😉 Easy way to a heart. It’s the staying in a heart that’s more complicated though. 🙂

True. We’ll just have to work extra hard then, won’t we?

Sing hallelujah and praise to the Lord amen!
(sorry – a little religious fervour rubbed off on me from the previous blog I was reading – I just need a bit of a sit down and I’ll be fine)
Yes – extra time into staying in hearts. Utterly worth it. 🙂

Yeah – I guess it’s the unpredictable side of me that does that. That and my love for my fellow travellers. I like to stir things together and add a little sweetness – a bit like making coffee I guess. 😉

Oh, and I do like my coffee. In fact I just finished one! 🙂

Nice to hear. I imagine you feel nice and buzzy now. It’s a lovely feeling to be able to relax in the evening knowing that nothing much more needs to happen before the morning aside from a refreshing sleep. 🙂

Ah, you put that so nicely Robert. And it’s true. I can just put my feet up now, I’ve even done my journaling and brushed my teeth already, so much later I’ll be ready to just jump into bed! How’s that for a visual? 🙂

Well, this is something worth reading. It matters a lot how words are put.
Anyway, thanks for sharing those quotes. ☺

A diamond rock! “Diamond” is too high for me to get as a compliment. Thank you so much.
Irony is that you called me kind natured and a rock (hard) altogether. 😁

You’re also very perceptive, Shreya. :)Fact is – I’m just following the guidelines in my own post by handing out positive words and vibes to all who read and comment. Hope you don’t mind.

Hey.. yet another interesting post, you never fail to surprise me. I agree, words are powerful enough to make someone rise or fall. Inspiring quotes and songs fill people with great enthusiasm. That’s how the speeches from personalities matter. We must choose them wisely for sure as I completely agree, as writers, we leave a history of words for the generations to come.

Judging by your words – your love will be a beacon for all as you continue through life. It’s inevitable. 🙂

Thanks, Ekhlas – the title was my starting point, and then I wanted to give it a differt meaning to the usual one. You are a strong and confident person and so I feel honoured that you took the time to read this and give your kind comments.
