If you want to thoroughly learn a subject – write a book about it. Writing a book or an article is an incredible way to learn more about your topic and the many ways there are to explain it to others.
Embedded in the writing of an article is the research you had to undertake to be able to write that article. To be able to write about formatting (for example) you need to know about formatting, and going through the process of seeking out that knowledge, summarising it appropriately and then presenting it to others in a written form is a sure-fire way to fill yourself with that knowledge and ability.
And if you ever catch yourself thinking that you have nothing more to learn … check your pulse – you may be in for an unpleasant surprise!
“Learning and teaching should not stand on opposite banks and just watch the river flow by; instead, they should embark together on a journey down the water. Through an active, reciprocal exchange, teaching can strengthen learning how to learn.” Loris Malaguzzi (1920–1994)
